Solutions Looking for a Problem
When you have a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
You might think it's cool to study AI and machine learning, especially given the recent AI craze, and you'd be right. Generative AI is like magic, except it isn't (it's just maths, lots and lots of really complicated math).
Like any good craze, it's suddenly touted as the solution to every problem. Big tech is spending billions trying to build the biggest, baddest AI. Regular people are worried about losing their jobs, while regular companies still don't quite know what to do with all this AI stuff yet.
As a result, most people are taking the "solutions looking for a problem" approach where they have a solution (some AI-powered product), and they're looking for a problem somewhere their solution can solve.
The correct approach would be to find a problem and then solve it. With or without AI, it doesn't matter. AI is just a tool, not the tool, to solve your problems. Would be cool if it helps. Otherwise, it's okay to not use it.
At the end of the day, we're all just problem solvers trying to solve the endless problems in our lives.
